Meet Our Developers
We’re Wendi Patrick and Leslie Hall—published writers with a combined 60 years in K–12 ELA assessment and content development. Between us, we’ve done just about everything in the field: from designing and scoring tests to leading passage and item reviews, fairness and sensitivity reviews, and professional development for teachers. We’ve built classroom performance and portfolio assessments, formative tools, and high-stakes statewide tests—and contributed to major programs like Smarter Balanced (SBAC) and PARCC.

Oh, look, that's us! Leslie (left) and Wendi (right). We've been friends and colleagues since the early 90s! While we each took slightly different paths into assessment development (Leslie worked in hand scoring, and Wendi started as a temp in the editorial department), we've both always been passionate about doing our best to create products that engage students and help teachers. We have frequently collaborated on different projects over the years, and Paper Lantern Learning is the culmination of our combined years of experience, knowledge, passion, hard work, and above all, friendship.
